Quick Look: AEM as a Cloud Service

WTC&T

“Why aren’t we on the cloud?”

“We need to move our stuff to the cloud.”

“Everyone is doing it, what is holding us back.”

“I want a digital transformation roadmap that includes moving our infrastructure to the cloud.”

“Being in the cloud would solve all our problems.”

The above quotes are samples of conversations in every CIO, CMO, IT department, and marketing team planning session. Everyone from the back office to the front office, to the customer, thinks they should be ‘in the cloud.’

To be honest, they are mostly right. There is strong momentum to move a company’s digital infrastructure to the cloud to take advantage of the stability, scale, and innovations provided by a cloud-based solution. This trend is not going away, and we expect it to accelerate in this digital-first, customer experience-driven, e-commerce, more online than ever, world of 2020.

Companies will inevitably ask themselves, “Where do we start?” For some, it means migrating their hosting and infrastructure to a cloud-managed service like Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure. For others, it involves updating existing applications and solutions to leverage cloud-native services in a move towards a modern service-oriented architecture. Of course, there is that last group who will decide the benefits of a cloud-based infrastructure is not worth it at that time.

For organizations that use Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) as their experience and content management platform, it means one of two options.

  • First, Managed Services. Organizations can ‘move’ AEM to the cloud working directly with Adobe or a partner like Wunderman Thompson (WT), or with their own IT teams to host and provide managed services for their AEM instances. AEM in the Cloud has been the only and best choice for many years and may remain the right choice for some customers for many reasons that we will get to in this series.
  • Second, AEM as a Cloud Service. A wholly refactored version of AEM that leverages native cloud services to deliver the AEM experience. AEM as a Cloud Service is the future of AEM for most customers, and most organizations should evaluate it in 2020.

In this series of three posts, the Wunderman Thompson team will:
