HALL Wines is among Napa Valley’s most renowned wineries, known for its critically acclaimed Bordeaux varietals, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc.HALL’s two California wineries and ten estate vineyards span more than 500 planted acres, with a strong focus on environmental responsibility; their flagship St. Helena location became the state’s first LEED Gold certified winery in 2009, and both locations adhere to sustainable practices including organic cultivation, water recycling and use of renewable energy.
Seeking to effectively tell their brand story in order to grow direct-to-consumer sales and drive Wine Club membership enrollment, HALL partnered with Gorilla to create a best-in-class, responsive ecommerce solution.
Tasked with building a responsive site, with a focus on user experience design and front-end development work, we began with a code audit of their existing Magento instance in order to identify gaps and best practices to guide the process. The site’s primary functionality goals were to sell products, encourage and enable Wine Club membership sign ups, and provide information about planning and scheduling visits, tours and tastings.

In order to capture the vibrant HALL story, our team visited Napa Valley for a brand immersion experience to inform wireframes, mood boards and creative designs. The website design seeks to replicate the historic and innovative luxury of their facilities, and the multi-faceted sensory experiences of visiting a vineyard and tasting room. The online experience is designed to feel personal and uncrowded, with strong photography and a consistent, intelligent voice.
Our design approach guided development work, during which we built-out category and product detail pages using varietal and collection differentiators and expanded product filters and images to make navigation simple and accessible across interfaces. We also expanded the site with Education pages, which provide helpful consumption tips and guidance ranging from decanting, serving, and appropriately pairing wine and food. The solution is powered by the Magento Enterprise platform.
Since launch, the site has delivered blending an upgraded brand experience with enhanced functionality, providing shoppers an online experience reminiscent of a visit to a HALL vineyard and tasting room. The site is currently being supported by our Managed Services team, who continue to work with the team on new initiatives, including a website redesign for their sister brand WALT.
