Sweaty Bands, a rapidly growing manufacturer of women’s performance headbands, helps women look and feel stylish, comfortable, and composed no matter what the day brings.Founded in 2007 by a fitness instructor and mother of three, the company has expanded from a home-based business to a global operation with a cult-like following of female athletes and fitness enthusiasts.
Seeking to better showcase and differentiate their brand, simplify merchandising and back-end site management, and serve both consumers and retail partners with a single solution, Sweaty Bands partnered with Gorilla to define and implement a commerce solution that enabled growth across digital and physical channels.
While Sweaty Bands came to us with a solid brand foundation from marketing efforts and packaging, their website didn’t tell the same story. During the project’s Discovery phase, we uncovered an opportunity to not only improve the brand’s digital presence, but also expand their voice through photography, enhanced product descriptions, interactions, typography and content. We were able to add another layer to their brand through unique site navigation and an immersive focus on photography. We also worked on SEO consulting with a customer-focus, to increase product discovery without detracting from the brand aesthetic.
We worked with the Sweaty Bands team to develop an organized site structure that aligned with their business goals. We developed featured categories that enable quick shopping of top sellers and new products, and even developed a page for Donna’s Picks, selected favorites from the company’s owner and creative director. Design-wise, we focused on photography, with modeled shots of every product style, so shoppers could better envision how each print would look worn. We also implemented a hover-scroll on product details to show various angles and states of each headband that mimics an in-store experience.
With their product already lining the shelves of major national retailers like Nordstrom and Dick’s Sporting Goods, Sweaty Bands was seeking an ecommerce solution that could accommodate both individual and bulk orders. We met this need by building a separate gated B2B portal that allowed registered retailer partners to purchase products in bulk quantities at wholesale prices.
We activated their engaged community online and enabled user-generated content by integrating Magento Enterprise with Olapic, a tool that allows brands to collect and showcase user-generated photos from social media like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Other key integrations included Great Plains ERP, the Bronto marketing platform, and Shipworks.
Since launch, the new site has delivered on its promise of connecting the Sweaty Bands brand to loyal shoppers through their digital presence and boosting customer engagement. Our Managed Services and Strategy teams continue to work with the company on future initiatives to support their long-term growth.
